SPELLING
BEE RULES
A. Requirements
1.
Participants are Junior High School
Students, grade 7-9, that is representative of their respective schools.
2.
Maximum quota of spellers is 30. Each
school could submit 2 of their students as main participants. If there are more
than 2 representatives, they will submit into waiting list participant.
3.
All spellers must attend the Technical
Meeting that will be held on:

Time : 14.30 - end
Place : SMA Negeri 2 Yogyakarta
Technical
meeting will discuss the technical and competition rules. For participants who
do not attend, must agree with all the rules that have been set by the
committee.
4.
Registration will be closed at Technical
Meeting
B. Terms of Registration
1.
Registration form can be taken at SMA
Negeri 2 Yogyakarta
2.
Fill out the registration form and
submit at the time of registration
3.
Submit photographs as much as 2 pieces
3x4 (1 for in paste form, one submitted to the committee) and a copy of student
identity card at the time of registration.
4.
Pay a registration fee of Rp 50.000, 00
C. Technical and Competition Rules
1.
Participants must re-register before opening
ceremony begins.
2.
Participants who did not attend after
being called 3 times, will be disqualified.
3.
There are 2 rounds in competition;
Elimination Round and Final Battle.
4.
The announcement of the winners will be
announced on that day, but the distribution of prizes and certificates will be
held in SMADA English Performance.
5.
Decision of the judges cannot be contested.
6.
Participants are not allowed to bring a
dictionary or any device that aims to prepare the spelling of the word after
re-registration.

Elimination
Round
1.
Spellers are divided into 3 groups.
2.
Each speller will occupy seat according
to the serial number given in technical meeting.
3.
The spellers shall be conducted in
rounds. Each speller remaining in the spelling bee at the start of a round
shall spell one word in the round. Spelling started by serial number.
4.
After the pronouncer gives the speller a
word, the speller should pronounce the word before and after spelling the word.
5.
The speller may ask the pronouncer to
say the word again, define it, and/or use it in a sentence. The pronouncer
shall grant all such requests until the judges agree that the word has been
made reasonably clear to the speller.
6.
If a word has one or more homonyms, the
pronouncer will indicate which word is to be spelled by define it.
7.
Speller will be eliminated if:
a) Misspells
the word given.
b) In
the process of retracing a spelling, alters the letters or sequence of letters
from those first uttered.
c) Refuses
a request from judges to start spelling.
8.
There will be 3 spellers from each group
who continues to the Final Battle.

Final Battle
1.
There are 9 spellers in Final Battle.
2.
The rules are same as Elimination Round.
3.
There will be 3 winners.
